Introduction to Demio
Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to another NachoTuesdays! Today, I have Ashley here with Bonzai, representing the product Demio. Without further ado, could you give us a brief introduction to what Demio does, especially since we’re currently using it live here?
Sure! Demio is an engaging webinar platform known for its outstanding analytics. The short version is that Demio excels in two main areas compared to other webinar platforms: engagement and analytics. It allows you to identify who is qualified in your session and who might be ready to talk to sales. These insights are invaluable for marketers.
Engagement and Analytics
I’m excited to have this conversation on Demio, and I encourage everyone in the audience to use the chat and ask questions. Feel free to join in and be part of the conversation!
So, what do you think many platforms miss with online webinars today? It seems like Demio has focused on providing robust engagement tools and data features. Could you elaborate on these aspects?

Absolutely. Today, it’s expected that webinar platforms offer some level of engagement, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone started doing webinars. Basic features like chat and polls are now standard. However, Demio goes beyond that by providing detailed data and analytics on how attendees are using these engagement tools. This includes tracking who is most engaged, who attends multiple sessions, and other valuable insights. Marketers need these insights to make informed decisions about their marketing programs and prove the value of their webinar efforts. Simply counting registrations isn’t enough; tangible insights are necessary to measure success effectively.
B2B Content Marketing Strategy
A lot of people in content marketing just start producing and sharing content, hoping it will magically attract visitors and convert them. What would you recommend for setting up a B2B content marketing strategy that works? I assume data is a big component of it.
Yes, data is crucial. Content marketing can be overwhelming because there are so many channels to test. Many people use content marketing within their lead scoring systems, which is a smart idea. However, it's essential to update your lead scoring as you identify trends and behaviors in your buying cycle. For instance, if you notice that certain email content performs exceptionally well, you should adjust your lead scoring to reflect this. Lead scoring should align with your data insights to help you make better decisions. It’s important to continually refresh your lead scoring and track how people engage with your content across different channels.
Integrated Webinar Strategy
You advocate for an integrated approach to webinars, including follow-up sequences and identifying which attendees are more likely to convert. Do you have any additional tips for a successful B2B webinar strategy?
My biggest tip is to start with a business goal and a marketing goal. Instead of beginning with a webinar topic, first define your business objectives. This will help you determine if the webinar is relevant to your goals. For example, if your goal is to increase customer retention or brand awareness, the webinar should align with these objectives. Once you have clear goals, create specific KPIs to measure if the webinar met these objectives. Then, develop the topic based on your goals and identify the target audience. Use your segmented database and advertising channels like LinkedIn or Facebook to invite the right people. This approach ensures that your webinars are purpose-driven and effectively support your business goals. Engagement and Follow-Up
Show your attendees the value of attending by following up with them. Identify who was most engaged and who participated the most. This information can help you tailor the actual content you're presenting in your webinar. For example, I often create a poll during the webinar asking, "What do you want to talk about next? Should we discuss this topic or that topic?" This is an excellent way to find out what your audience cares about most while they are still present. Use this to your advantage—it's a simple, step-by-step process that involves setting goals, defining topics, segmenting the audience, and following up with targeted communications. This approach forms the basis of effective B2B webinar programming, regardless of team size or budget.
Utilizing Content After the Webinar
Make sure to make use of the content after the webinar. Chop it up into social media sound bites, create blog posts, and run email campaigns about the webinar. Transform your blog posts into webinars and vice versa. Repurposing content helps maximize its value. Despite this, many people forget the basics of marketing when it comes to webinars. We might feel nervous in front of a camera or have unrealistic expectations of what a webinar should be. However, returning to basics is crucial: understand who the webinar is for, why it is meaningful for them, and how to continue the relationship after the webinar.
Promotion and Engagement
Often, webinars are treated as one-off events with insufficient promotion beforehand. Engaging with your audience before and after the webinar is vital. If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to use the chat feature during the webinar. Post-webinar follow-up is equally important. Convert sound bites into social media content and ensure that you keep the engagement going. A well-planned content calendar can make this easier, even with a small team. One piece of content can serve many purposes over several weeks across different channels.
Personalized Follow-Up
When following up with attendees, it's essential to personalize your approach. For example, if someone like Rob shows interest in content marketing and data, you might follow up by thanking them for attending and sharing additional resources on these topics. Tailor your follow-up based on their interests rather than pushing a sales pitch, especially if it doesn’t align with their interests or the purpose of the webinar. If a follow-up email offers a sales call when it’s not relevant, it could lead to frustration. Instead, let people opt-in to newsletters if they want to learn more about your company over time.
Understanding the Emotional Buying Journey
Consider the emotional buying journey of your audience. People often start in a frustrated state, seeking to solve a pain point. For example, some may come to us frustrated with their current webinar platform or the results they’re getting. Our job is to guide them from frustration to curiosity and optimism. With each piece of content, aim to move them a step closer to feeling more interested and less frustrated. Create compelling subject lines, webinar topics, and landing page copy by understanding their emotional state and addressing their specific needs.
B2B Content Marketing Trends
B2B marketing is increasingly adopting trends from consumer marketing, such as personalizing the brand experience. Webinars and video marketing provide an opportunity to showcase the people behind the brand, making the company more relatable. People buy from people, not businesses. This human connection can significantly impact your marketing efforts.
Nurturing a Cold Social Media Audience
Elizabeth asked about nurturing a cold social media audience for an upcoming webinar. One effective strategy is to ensure your topic is top-of-funnel, relevant to their initial interest, and not overly sales-oriented. Consider offering incentives like free content or exclusive access to resources related to the webinar topic. This approach warms them up before the actual registration. Provide valuable content first, and then invite them to the webinar. This way, you can tailor follow-ups based on how they engaged with the free content.
Tailoring Content to Audience Needs
Different types of webinars serve different purposes. Some are geared towards sales presentations for prospects who are further down the funnel, seeking specific product details and pricing. Others, like today’s session, focus on thought leadership, providing general tips and insights. By working with experts and showcasing new products, we aim to introduce them to potential clients and offer valuable marketing advice. Every webinar should be tailored to its audience and objectives, ensuring that content is relevant and engaging. Building Thought Leadership and Identifying Pain Points
Always ensure that your content ties back to the broader thought leadership topic you're building for your brand. This all starts with creating value for your audience. If you maintain a focus on community, you can build that value over time.
One of the pain points I often hear from my customers is their difficulty in identifying their audience’s pain points. They frequently come to me saying they don't know what these pain points are or how to identify them. My answer is simple: you just have to ask them. One effective method I use is through webinar registration. I conduct quarterly “Ask Me Anything” webinars that are high-level discussions about any topic related to webinars. I ask attendees to submit their questions ahead of time. This not only helps me prepare and provide relevant answers during the webinar but also gives me insight into what’s important to them and why they are attending.
Increasing Engagement and Gathering Data
Asking for questions in advance is a great way to drive registration. People are more likely to attend an event where they know their questions will be answered. If you let them know their question will be addressed live, they’re more likely to show up or watch the recording. This pre-session engagement helps you gather valuable data about your target audience. You can then share this information with your sales team and content marketing team, using it to identify topics of interest and personalize your approach. For example, if Rob and Elizabeth are interested in content marketing and data, you can use this information to build relationships and better connect with them.
Leveraging Content Post-Webinar
After the webinar, leverage the content in various ways. You can include it in your newsletter, host it on your website, and even transcribe the video to improve SEO. Transcriptions can boost your search engine rankings over time.
Exploring New Channels for Promotion
Regarding promotion on platforms like TikTok, which is often considered a B2C channel, my advice is to test every channel. While TikTok might seem unconventional for B2B marketing, there’s no harm in experimenting. If it doesn’t work for your business, you can move on. TikTok is worth trying if it fits your content and audience.
Maximizing Exposure on YouTube
YouTube, however, is a channel I always recommend. As the second largest search engine globally, it’s excellent for SEO. There are several ways to utilize YouTube for your webinars:
- Full Webinar Upload: Upload the entire webinar, making it accessible to everyone. - On-Demand Version: Link to an on-demand version that continues to generate leads and runs automatically in the background, though it remains gated. - Snippets: Take specific snippets of conversations, like a segment where Elizabeth asks a question and I provide an answer. These can be shared individually on YouTube for further engagement. By exploring these strategies, you can extend the reach of your webinar content and enhance your overall marketing efforts. Content Utilization and Distribution
To maximize the value of your webinar content, consider creating multiple pieces from a single session. For instance, you can generate clips based on specific topics or questions discussed.
For example, if someone asks, "How do I nurture an upcoming webinar with a cold social media audience?" that could be its own clip. Similarly, if another attendee, Rob, asks, "What are you going to do with us as attendees next?" that’s another clip. This approach requires some logistical work, but it can yield five or six different pieces of content from a 30-minute webinar. YouTube is always a good platform for this, and I recommend using your website as well. You can include either the webinar transcript or individual video snippets.
Blog Posts and SEO
For instance, if you have a video snippet featuring Elizabeth’s topic, place it at the top of your blog post and add captions to enhance SEO. Then, write a comprehensive blog post on that topic. Similarly, create a separate, detailed blog post for Rob’s topic. From one webinar, you might end up with six or seven different blog posts. This approach allows you to break down content into manageable pieces, which can be useful for years. However, this process requires resources, as video editing and content creation can be time-consuming. Knowing your way around a video editing platform or having access to someone who does is essential.
Starting Small and Exploring Channels
You don’t have to start with everything at once. Begin by extracting the best soundbite—a one to one-and-a-half-minute clip—and post it on YouTube, TikTok, or other channels. Don’t limit yourself to LinkedIn; explore other platforms as well.
Importance of Video and Visuals
Video often outperforms other media forms because people are more likely to stop and watch a video than read a graphic. Although many blog posts and LinkedIn posts are text-heavy, incorporating videos and visuals can significantly improve engagement.
Optimizing Post-Production Content
To make your content stand out, focus on SEO. Pay attention to the title, imagery, and descriptions when uploading videos to YouTube. Include links to your website, lead magnets, or the original webinar recording in the description. Always include a call to action that directs viewers to additional resources on your website. Additionally, use captions to enhance accessibility.
Demi’s Platform Features
Demi offers several features to enhance webinar engagement and data collection. For example, engagement tools like polls and handouts can make your audience part of the content rather than mere observers. On the backend, Demi provides valuable data, such as who asked questions or downloaded handouts. This information is crucial for follow-ups and tailoring your approach based on audience interests and engagement levels.
Registration Form Tips
Consider asking a simple question on your registration form, such as whether attendees want to hear from someone in sales. You might be surprised by how many people are ready to talk to sales, even if the webinar isn’t directly related to your product. This can be an effective way to identify and engage potential leads.
Upcoming Features and Contact Information
Demi is launching an updated user dashboard that will make it easier for hosts to identify engaged participants. This new feature will function similarly to a Salesforce dashboard, providing high-level metrics at a glance. Additionally, Demi is excited about Bonsai, the company serving Demi, going public soon, which will bring new opportunities for both Demi and its products.
